Our approach

Burn Trail asks for very little. There is no account and no sign-up, and your progress stays on your device. Two things do leave it: a leaderboard entry, if you choose to post one, and the data the ads need. Both are explained below.

Information stored on your device

Your game lives on your device rather than in an account:

  • Your best results and run history.
  • Game settings, such as sound and controls.
  • The leaderboard name you last used.

This data is not tied to a real name, an email address, or an account. If you delete the game, it goes with it.

The leaderboard

The leaderboard is optional. If you post a run, we store the name you typed, your result, and the time it was posted on our servers, and we show them publicly to other players.

Please pick a nickname rather than your real name, and do not put an email address, phone number, or anything else personal into it. Whatever you type is visible to everyone.

Along with the entry we keep a technical identifier so we can spot cheating and duplicate submissions. It is not linked to your identity, and it is not used for advertising.

Want an entry gone? Email us with the name and roughly when it was posted and we will remove it.

Information collected automatically

To keep the game stable and to understand how it is played overall, we may collect limited technical and usage information, such as crash reports, general gameplay activity, and basic device information. Where this is used for analytics, it is kept in an aggregated or de-identified form and is not used to identify you personally.

Ads

Burn Trail is free and supported by ads served by third-party advertising partners. To show and measure ads, these partners may process information such as your device's advertising identifier, general device and app information, an approximate location derived from your IP address, and how you interact with the ads.

This processing happens under the advertising partner's own privacy policy, not ours. We do not sell your personal information, and advertisers do not get your leaderboard entries.

Where the law requires consent for personalised ads, the game asks you first, and you can change your answer later in the game or in your device settings.

How information is shared

We share information only in limited cases: with trusted providers that help us run the game, such as advertising, leaderboard hosting, crash reporting, and app distribution, strictly to provide those services; and where required by law or to protect the rights and safety of players and the game. Leaderboard entries are, by design, shown publicly.

Your choices

You stay in control:

  • Play without posting to the leaderboard at all.
  • Choose a nickname that says nothing about you.
  • Ask us to remove a leaderboard entry.
  • Reset or limit your advertising identifier in your device settings to opt out of personalised ads.
  • Change or withdraw your ad consent where the game asks for it.
  • Remove everything stored on the device by uninstalling the game.

Data retention

Data on your device stays there for as long as you keep the game installed. Leaderboard entries are kept until they are removed, the board is reset, or you ask us to delete them. Technical and usage data is kept only as long as we need it to run and improve the game.

Security

We use reasonable measures to protect the limited information the game handles. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security, but keeping the data footprint small is a large part of how we approach it.

Children

Burn Trail is an action game intended for a general teen and adult audience, not for young children. If you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate consent — in a leaderboard name, for instance — please contact us so we can remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the game evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the date above and may notify you in the game. Continuing to play after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
